The City of New Lenox is located in Central Will County. It is directly east of Joliet. The city is located at the point where Interstate 80, Interstate 355, and U.S. 30. This city is served by two Metra lines. New Lenox was originally named, VanHorne Point. It was then called Tracey, then in 1863 is was named New Lenox. In 1946 the State of Illinois officially made New Lenox a city. The New Lenox Post Office is named for Army Spec. Jacob Lowell. He was in the First Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (Air Assult) 173rd Airborne unit, that was based in Camp Ederl, Italy. He died while fighting in June, 2007.
